From investment to action: how we help farmers deliver measurable ecological and social impact.
Inspired by proven Irish models like The Burren Programme, The Hare’s Corner Project and Farming for Nature, we bring together private and public finance to support action and incentivise outcomes on farms.
In the right place, these actions are proven to boost biodiversity, improve water retention, create habitat and strengthen landscape resilience. ReFarm enables them – through targeted advice and funding – to implement small but potentially high-impact projects on their land, including:
These actions are proven to boost biodiversity, improve water retention, create habitat and strengthen landscape resilience.
Once a farmer completes an agreed action, ReFarm pays them immediately, and with a minimum of fuss, from funding raised. We track actions, verify delivery and report outcomes back to funders.
In this pilot phase, we are testing what works best: the most reliable specifications, the most efficient payment processes, and the most scalable measures.
We also incentivise the optimal design and ongoing management of habitats created, by using simple scorecards. Completed annually by farmers (with a proportion verified by the ReFarm team), these scorecards reflect habitat quality and are used to calculate a ‘result-based payment’: the better the habitat, the greater the dividend! Payments are administered in partnership with Burrenbeo Trust.
Farmers get paid to restore nature. Investors receive verified outcomes. Nature benefits.
Our blended-finance model brings together businesses, philanthropic funders and the public sector. Through our pilots, we’re refining an approach that’s simple for farmers, credible for investors, and scalable across Ireland.
The goal: any farmer who wants to invest in nature can access funding. Any business committed to nature restoration can invest with confidence.
We’re pioneering a way for investors to invest in nature on Irish farms by funding farmers to take nature-friendly actions on their land, backed by strong partnerships and independent research. The following principles underpin the ReFarm approach:
